Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a key role in brain development.
Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications of the ALK gene are associated with various tumors, including anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangements often result in a fusion gene between ALK (chromosome 2) and NPM (chromosome 5), producing an oncogenic NPM-ALK protein.
ALK is a receptor tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, showing high sequence similarity to LTK.
It is important for neuronal development and function in the nervous system.
