Apolipoprotein C-III (apo-CIII)는 인간 APOC3 유전자에 의해 발현되는 단백질로, 매우 낮은 밀도의 지단백(VLDL)의 구성 요소입니다.
APOC3는 lipoprotein lipase와 hepatic lipase를 억제하여 중성지방이 풍부한 입자의 대사를 지연시키는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
ApoC-III 수치의 증가는 고중성지방혈증의 발달을 유도할 수 있습니다.
APOA1, APOC3, APOA4 유전자는 사람과 쥐 모두에서 밀접하게 연결되어 있으며, A-I과 A-IV 유전자는 동일한 가닥에서 전사되고 A-1과 C-III 유전자는 서로 반대 방향으로 전사됩니다.
