The monoclonal antibody HM47 recognizes the cytoplasmic domain of CD79a (mb-1), a 47 kDa membrane glycoprotein that forms a heterodimer with CD79b to constitute the B cell receptor (BCR) complex.
CD79a mediates B cell signaling leading to activation, apoptosis, or anergy. It is expressed from pre-B cells through plasma cells and serves as a reliable marker for B cells and related neoplasms such as AML.

Target Information

CD79a forms a disulphide-linked heterodimer with CD79b (B29). It is a component of the B lymphocyte antigen receptor, essential for B-cell receptor expression and function.
CD79a appears at the pre-B cell stage and persists until the plasma cell stage, where it becomes intracellular. It is detected in most precursor B-cell leukemias, B-cell lines, lymphomas, and some myelomas, but not in myeloid or T-cell lines.
