• Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed at high levels in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors.
CEA belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family and consists of one N domain and six constant-like domains (A1–A3, B1–B3).
Antibodies against CEA are useful for identifying the origin of metastatic adenocarcinomas and distinguishing pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
CEA functions as a cell-cell adhesion molecule found in leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia, and plays roles in tissue structure organization, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune response modulation.
Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all are fully characterized.
