Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues, heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors. It belongs to the carcinoembryonic antigen family within the immunoglobulin supergene family.
CEA consists of one N domain and six immunoglobulin constant-like domains (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3). Antibodies against CEA help identify metastatic adenocarcinomas and distinguish pulmonary adenocarcinomas (typically CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely CEA+).
CEA functions as a cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia, mediating homophilic and heterophilic interactions. It plays roles in tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation. Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all full-length forms have been defined.
