Target Information
CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class I-related cell surface glycoprotein expressed in association with beta-2 microglobulin. It is found on cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, certain T-cell leukemias, and other tissues. CD1a mediates the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes (CD1a–e) organized on chromosome 1, differing in localization and ligand specificity. CD1a localizes to the plasma membrane and early endocytic vesicles. Alternative splicing variants have been observed but their biological validity remains undetermined.
