Target Information
CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class I-related cell surface glycoprotein expressed in association with β2-microglobulin.
It is found on cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, and certain T-cell leukemias.
CD1a mediates presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells.
The human genome contains five CD1 family genes (CD1a, b, c, d, e) located on chromosome 1.
CD1a localizes to the plasma membrane and early endocytic vesicles.
Alternative spliced transcript variants have been observed but their biological validity is undetermined.
