Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but can also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is expressed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 plays a role in T-cell activation and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related diseases of the CNS. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified for this gene.
