Target Information

The Ras-encoded family of proteins bind GDP and GTP with high affinity and exhibit low intrinsic GTPase activity, which increases significantly upon interaction with cytosolic GTPase activating proteins (GAPs).
Ras family members include H-Ras, K-Ras, N-Ras, M-Ras, R-Ras, ERas, Rheb, TC21, RASL11B, and Rad (Ras associated with diabetes) GTPase.
Rad GTPase is a GTP-binding protein similar to Ras but lacks typical prenylation motifs at its C terminus. It binds calmodulin, inhibits vascular lesion formation, and shows low intrinsic GTPase activity not stimulated by known GAP molecules.
Rad GTPase is expressed in skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and lung tissues, and is overexpressed in skeletal muscle of individuals with type II diabetes.
