Target Information
SOX17 (transcription factor SOX-17) belongs to the SRY-related HMB box family of transcription factors.
It acts as a transcription regulator that binds target promoter DNA and bends the DNA.
It binds to the sequences 5'-AACAAT-'3 or 5'-AACAAAG-'3.
SOX17 modulates transcriptional regulation via WNT3A and inhibits Wnt signaling.
It promotes degradation of activated CTNNB1 and plays an essential role in embryonic development, including normal looping of the embryonic heart tube and definitive gut endoderm formation.
Mutations in the gene can result in vesicoureteral reflux.
