Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G and participates in immune complex clearance, cellular mediated cytotoxicity, and enhancement of viral infections.
The FCGR3A gene shares high similarity with FCGR3B on chromosome 1.
- FCGR3A: Expressed on NK cells as an integral membrane glycoprotein with a transmembrane anchor
- FCGR3B: Expressed on polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) with a phosphatidylinositol (PI) linkage
Mutations in FCGR3A are associated with immunodeficiency 20, recurrent viral infections, systemic lupus erythematosus, and alloimmune neonatal neutropenia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
