AQP0 is the most abundant endogenous protein in the plasma membrane of lens fiber cells, functioning as a water pore and contributing to fiber-fiber adhesion and structural organization.

The C-terminal domain undergoes extensive post-translational modification, including truncations during lens aging, potentially linked to cataract development.
