Target Information

MYH (mutY homolog (E. coli)) is a DNA glycosylase mismatch repair enzyme that cooperates with mutM (OGG1) to remove adenine residues mispaired with oxidized or normal guanines, correcting A/G and A/C mismatches.
DNA glycosylases initiate base excision repair by cleaving N-glycosyl bonds. MYH prevents mutations from oxidative DNA damage and exists in multiple N-terminal splice variants in mammalian cells.
Elevated MYH levels in A549 cells exposed to oxygen and infrared radiation improve cell survival. Biallelic MYH germ-line mutations predispose humans to colorectal adenomas and carcinomas. MYH is abundant in neurons, maintaining mitochondrial DNA integrity against reactive oxygen species throughout the mammalian lifespan.
