Target Information
Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is an approximately 720-kDa homotetrameric glycoprotein composed of four identical ~180 kDa subunits. It shares structural features with other alpha-macroglobulins such as complement components C3 and C4 and pregnancy zone protein (PZP), providing a broad binding capacity for various ligands.
A2M acts as a panprotease inhibitor, capturing virtually any proteinase. In Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brains, A2M localizes to diffuse amyloid plaques, suggesting a role in AD pathophysiology.
