Target Information
Chemokines are a family of proteins associated with leukocyte trafficking during immune surveillance and inflammatory responses. CX3CL1, a CX3C chemokine, mediates adhesion and migration of leukocytes via membrane-bound and soluble forms. Studies indicate that CX3CL1 may suppress production of nitrous oxide, interleukin-6, and TNF-α in activated microglia and neuronal cells, suggesting a role as an intrinsic inhibitor against neurotoxicity. Its receptor, CX3CR1, also acts as a co-receptor for HIV-1 and HIV-2 envelope fusion and infection, which can be inhibited by CX3CL1.
