The KCNJ6 gene encodes an integral membrane, inward-rectifier potassium channel protein that preferentially allows potassium influx.
It is G-protein regulated and may play a role in glucose-induced insulin secretion.
KCNJ6 associates with other G-protein-activated potassium channels to form a heteromultimeric pore-forming complex.
