Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α and two β rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a member of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, a 20S core β subunit, located in the class II region of the MHC. Proteolytic processing is required to generate the mature subunit.
