Target Information
The PPHLN1 protein is incorporated into the cornified cell envelope during the terminal differentiation of keratinocytes in the epidermis. It interacts with periplakin, a precursor of the cornified cell envelope. The protein’s localization and insolubility suggest a role in epithelial differentiation and epidermal barrier formation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
