Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons and are composed predominantly of three major proteins: NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H. These proteins are involved in the maintenance of neuronal caliber. Expression of neuronal intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. NF-H plays an important role in mature axons and has been implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
