Target Information
ELAC2 encodes a protein with tRNA 3′ processing endoribonuclease activity, responsible for removing the 3′ trailer from precursor tRNAs. The protein interacts with Smad2 and its nuclear partner forkhead box H1 (FAST-1). Reduced expression can suppress TGF-β-induced growth arrest. Mutations in ELAC2 are associated with increased prostate cancer risk. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
