Target Information
WNK is a serine/threonine kinase involved in electrolyte homeostasis, cell signaling, survival, and proliferation. It acts as both activator and inhibitor of sodium- and potassium-coupled chloride cotransporters, respectively. WNK activates SCNN1A, SCNN1B, SCNN1D, and SGK1, and localizes to the distal nephron, a kidney segment regulating salt, potassium, and pH balance. Mutations in the WNK gene can cause pseudohypoaldosteronism and neuropathy.
