Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Response to stress in mammals requires an intact hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. The proximal part of the response is mediated by secretion of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus.
CRH is a 41 amino acid peptide derived from a 191 amino acid preprohormone and is produced in both the hypothalamus and peripheral tissues such as T lymphocytes and human placenta.
Glucocorticoids stimulate placental CRH synthesis and secretion, contrasting with their suppressive effect in the hypothalamus.
Human plasma contains a CRH-binding protein (CRH-BP or CRF-BP) that inactivates CRH and may prevent inappropriate pituitary-adrenal stimulation during pregnancy.
The CRH gene maps to chromosome 8q13, and the CRF-BP gene maps to chromosome 5q11.2–q13.3.
