Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a vital role in brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been associated with various tumors, including anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangements commonly lead to a fusion gene between ALK (chromosome 2) and nucleophosmin (NPM, chromosome 5). The NPM-ALK fusion product is oncogenic. ALK is a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, absent in the NPM-ALK fusion product. ALK shows high sequence similarity to LTK and is important for neuronal development and signaling in the nervous system.
