Target Information
Gene: NTRK2 (TRKB)
Function: NTRK2 encodes the receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a key regulator of neuronal development and maintenance. Together, NTRK2 and BDNF influence short-term synaptic functions and long-term potentiation.
TrkB is a tyrosine kinase receptor expressed primarily in central and peripheral nervous system tissues. BDNF and NT-3 induce phosphorylation of TrkB, activating MAPK signaling and promoting cell differentiation.
Mutations in TrkB have been linked to obesity and mood disorders. Multiple splice variants encoding different isoforms exist.
