Target Information
The p35 protein is a neuron-specific activator of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5), essential for central nervous system development. p35 is cleaved by calpain into p25, causing relocalization from the cell periphery to nuclear regions. The p25 form prolongs CDK5 activation and alters its localization. In Alzheimer’s disease, p25 accumulates in brain neurons, correlating with increased CDK5 activity and abnormal phosphorylation of tau protein, contributing to disease pathology.
