Target Information
Alpha-1-B glycoprotein (A1BG) is a plasma protein of unknown function belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Although its amino acid sequence, chromosomal assignment, and genetic polymorphism have been well characterized, no biological function has been suggested.
A1BG (Mr ≈ 63,000) consists of a single polypeptide chain of 474 amino acids with four glucosamine oligosaccharides and five intrachain disulfide bonds. It includes five repeating structural domains, each with about 95 amino acids and one disulfide bond.
Recent studies indicate that human cysteine-rich secretory protein 3 (CRISP-3) binds to A1BG, suggesting the A1BG–CRISP-3 complex may protect against harmful effects of free CRISP-3 in circulation.
