Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation rather than serving as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with low expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via its C-terminal extracellular domain, and blocking this domain has been reported to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
