Target Information
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) belongs to the Herpesviridae family and includes types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), also known as Human herpes virus 1 and 2 (HHV-1 and HHV-2).
HSV-1 primarily causes cold sores, while HSV-2 is associated with genital herpes. Transmission occurs through viral shedding from infected individuals.
The virion contains a large double-stranded linear DNA genome within a capsid and viral envelope, carrying over 70 open reading frames (ORFs). HSV has also been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
