Target Information

Human membralin is unique and does not share significant sequence homology with other human genes, only membralins of other species.
The membralin gene contains 11 exons encoding at least two spliced variants in human cancer.

• Membralin-1 (long form): all 11 exons, 620 amino acids
• Membralin-3 (short form): all exons except exon 10, 408 amino acids

Expression of different membralin isoforms depends on tissue type.

• Membralin-1: expressed in ovarian and colorectal carcinomas
• Membralin-3: expressed in breast and pancreatic carcinomas

Recent studies suggest that membralin is a novel tumor-associated marker in ovarian serous carcinomas.
