Target Information

Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, particularly in late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It contains a forkhead-associated (FHA) domain that mediates association with euchromatin at the perichromosomal layer, centromeric heterochromatin, and nucleolus.
The protein shows cell cycle-dependent localization: perinucleolar in G1, nuclear matrix in G2, and chromosomal during M phase.
Ki-67 is widely used as a marker of proliferation because it is absent in G0 cells and increases from G1 through mitosis. It helps determine the growth fraction in neoplasms, and its index correlates with tumor grade.
Commonly used as a neuronal marker of cell cycling and proliferation.
