Target Information
Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome, spanning about 260 million base pairs and comprising approximately 8% of the human genome. It contains around 3,000 genes, many of which are associated with various diseases such as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria (LMNA gene), familial adenomatous polyposis (MUTYH gene), Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, and Usher syndrome.
Aberrations in chromosome 1 are linked to cancers including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma, and multiple myeloma. A breakpoint in 1q affecting the DISC1 gene is associated with schizophrenia.
