VPS29은 vacuolar protein sorting 유전자군에 속하며, 기능 손상 시 vacuolar hydrolase의 효율적 전달이 저해됩니다. 이 단백질은 retromer complex의 구성 요소로, endosome에서 trans-Golgi network로의 단백질 역행 수송에 관여합니다. VPS 단백질은 역행 소포의 내측 껍질 형성에 관여할 수 있으며, 다양한 splice variant와 polyadenylation site를 가집니다.
