Target Information

E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. This glycoprotein mediates cell–cell adhesion and is composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.

Mutations in the CDH1 gene are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-cadherin function contributes to tumor progression by enhancing cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion, while the cytoplasmic domain is essential for internalization.

E-cadherin plays a key role in maintaining epithelial tissue integrity and architecture. In humans, it is encoded by the CDH1 gene located on chromosome 16.
