Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

Anti-KLH is a total IgM fraction prepared from ascites fluid by selective precipitation and tandem molecular sieve chromatography followed by extensive dialysis against the buffer stated above. KLH antibody is specific for KLH and does not cross-react with mouse heart or skin tissue sections. Cross-reactivity from other sources has not been determined.

Target Information

Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is an extremely large, heterogeneous glycosylated protein consisting of subunits with molecular weights of 350,000 and 390,000 in aggregates of 4,500,000–13,000,000.
Each domain of a KLH subunit contains two copper atoms that together bind a single oxygen molecule (O₂). When oxygen is bound, the molecule takes on a distinctive transparent, opalescent blue color.

KLH is potently immunogenic yet safe in humans, making it highly valued as a vaccine carrier protein. It is available only as a purified biological product from Keyhole Limpet Megathura crenulata.
KLH is widely used as a carrier protein in research, biotechnology, and therapeutic applications. Haptens with low molecular weight require a carrier protein like KLH to elicit an immune response.

KLH’s large size and numerous epitopes generate a strong immune response, and its abundance of lysine residues allows a high hapten-to-carrier ratio. Being phylogenetically distant from mammalian proteins reduces false positives in immunological assays using mammalian models.
However, KLH can aggregate and precipitate, which may limit hapten conjugation efficiency and complicate laboratory handling.
