P-selectin (also known as Selectin P, GMP-140, LECAM3, CD62 antigen-like family member) is a 140 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that regulates cell rolling. It is stored in the Weibel-Palade bodies of endothelial cells and in α-granules of platelets, and can be rapidly translocated to the cell surface upon stimulation by thrombin, histamine, complement 5a, Ca²⁺ ionophores, or adenosine diphosphate.

During platelet activation and degranulation, P-selectin redistributes to the plasma membrane and mediates interactions between activated endothelial cells or platelets and leukocytes. It plays a key role in adhesive processes between leukocytes and endothelial cells, acting as a calcium-dependent receptor for sialylated Lewis blood group carbohydrate antigens on neutrophils and monocytes. P-selectin is constitutively expressed during inflammation and contributes to atherogenesis, thrombosis, and tissue destruction. Clinically, it is used to distinguish heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with and without thrombosis.
