Target Information
The zinc transporter ZIP7 (SLC39A7) is part of a family of divalent ion transporters. Zinc is essential for cellular growth, development, and differentiation. ZIP7 was first identified during characterization of genes in the major histocompatibility complex on chromosome 17.
ZIP7 mRNA is widely expressed, and the protein localizes to the Golgi apparatus, transporting zinc from the Golgi to the cytoplasm. ZIP7 has been implicated in tyrosine kinase activation and may serve as a potential therapeutic target in cancer research.
