Target Information
The DDX56 gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif. These proteins are putative RNA helicases involved in processes such as:
- Translation initiation
- Nuclear and mitochondrial splicing
- Ribosome and spliceosome assembly
Some DEAD box proteins play roles in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
DDX56 shows ATPase activity in the presence of polynucleotides and associates with nucleoplasmic 65S preribosomal particles, suggesting a role in ribosome synthesis, particularly during the assembly of the large 60S subunit.
