Target Information
TPT1 (Translationally Controlled Tumor Protein 1) is a 23 kDa member of the TCTP family of calcium-binding proteins. It is cytoplasmic and widely expressed, functioning as a transcriptional activator, calcium transporter, histamine inducer, and anti-apoptotic caspase 3 inhibitor.
TPT1 acts as a cytokine-like molecule, inducing histamine, IL-4, and IL-13 release from basophils and IL-8 secretion and calcium response in eosinophils. It plays a role in allergic diseases and is implicated in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Down syndrome.
