Target Information
Huntingtin disease is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. The Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein potentially involved in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. HIP-1 may also play a role in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and tumorigenesis by supporting the survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. Its expression correlates with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, making it a possible prognostic factor for these cancers.
