Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported:
- One encodes a receptor-type PTP with a short extracellular domain, a single transmembrane region, and two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains.
- The other encodes a nonreceptor-type isoform with a distinct hydrophilic N-terminus.
Studies in mice suggest that this PTP plays regulatory roles in RAS-related signal transduction pathways, cytokine-induced STAT signaling, and activation of voltage-gated K⁺ channels.
