Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported: one encodes a receptor-type PTP with a short extracellular domain, single transmembrane region, and two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains; another encodes a nonreceptor-type isoform with a distinct hydrophilic N-terminus. Studies in mice suggest roles in RAS-related signal transduction, cytokine-induced SATA signaling, and activation of voltage-gated K+ channels.
