Product Specific Information

The eBio341 monoclonal antibody reacts with rat CD8β, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that forms a heterodimer with CD8α to create the CD8 antigen. This antigen is expressed on CD4+CD8+ thymocytes, MHC class I-restricted peripheral T cells, and some macrophages.
CD8β expression is absent in athymic mice, indicating its dependency on thymic T cell development. CD8 binds to MHC class I molecules on antigen-presenting cells, participating in T-cell receptor signal transduction through Lck kinase association.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Flow cytometry on rat splenocytes and thymocytes, ≤0.25 µg/test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).
Careful titration recommended for optimal assay performance.

Target Information

CD8B antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein present on cytotoxic T lymphocytes, mediating immune cell-cell interactions. Acting as a coreceptor with the T-cell receptor, CD8 recognizes antigens presented by APCs via MHC class I molecules.
Functional CD8 may form either α-homodimers or α/β-heterodimers, both homologous to immunoglobulin light chains.
The CD8B gene encodes β-chain isoforms, with multiple alternatively spliced variants producing membrane-associated or secreted forms. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 2.
