Target Information

Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) is a 44-kDa glycoprotein that interacts with the NEU/ERBB2 receptor tyrosine kinase, leading to increased phosphorylation of tyrosine residues. The NRG1 gene produces multiple isoforms through alternative splicing, including heregulins (HRGs), glial growth factors (GGFs), and sensory and motor neuron-derived factor (SMDF).
These isoforms differ in structure and tissue-specific expression. HRG isoforms contain immunoglobulin (Ig) and epidermal growth factor-like (EGF-like) domains. GGF isoforms include a kringle-like sequence plus Ig and EGF-like domains, while SMDF shares only the EGF-like domain.
All NRG1 isoforms interact with ERBB family receptors, inducing growth and differentiation in epithelial, neuronal, glial, and other cell types.
