Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is frequently activated in various tumor cells and plays a critical role in:

• Cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression
• Regulation via phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK
• Vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development

Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize Myc-tagged proteins at either amino- or carboxy-termini. Amplification of c-Myc is observed in lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, while N-Myc amplification occurs in neuroblastomas. Translocation of the c-Myc locus is associated with Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders. Aberrant expression of c-Myc is found in diverse tumors, including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
