Target Information
BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a member of the neurotrophin family. It is synthesized as pre-proBDNF and processed into proBDNF and the mature 14 kDa form. Both pro- and mature BDNF are biologically active and secreted in synaptic vesicles.
BDNF is widely expressed in the central nervous system, promoting neuronal survival, differentiation, and synaptic regulation. It primarily signals through the TrkB receptor and also interacts with p75-NTR.
Reduced BDNF expression has been associated with Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases, as well as mood and stress-related disorders.
