Product Specific Information

  • In Western blot, human proteins run at approximately 68 kDa, while rat and mouse run lower at around 66 kDa.
  • Minor bands at ~150 kDa likely represent covalent dimers, and bands at ~50 kDa correspond to alpha-internexin breakdown products.
  • Stable at 4°C for at least one year. For longer-term storage, mix 1:1 with 100% glycerol and store at -20°C.

Target Information

alpha-Internexin is a Class IV intermediate filament subunit expressed early in neuronal development. It is related to, but distinct from, the neurofilament triplet proteins NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H, sharing similar sequence motifs and intron organization.
Many mature neurons contain alpha-internexin in addition to NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H, while some express only alpha-internexin.
Antibodies to internexin serve as unique probes for studying and classifying neuronal types and tracing neuronal processes in tissue sections or cultures.
Its early developmental expression makes it a useful marker for neuronal progenitor cells and other neuron-committed cells.
Potential applications in brain tumor studies remain to be explored.
