In Western blot, a prominent band at approximately 66 kDa is observed, along with smaller lower bands that are likely degradation products. A minor band at around 150 kDa is also seen, resulting from dimerization of alpha-internexin.

Target Information

alpha-Internexin is a Class IV intermediate filament subunit expressed very early in neuronal development. It is related to but distinct from neurofilament triplet proteins (NF-L, NF-M, NF-H), sharing similar sequence motifs and intron organization. Many mature neurons contain alpha-internexin in addition to NF proteins, while some express only alpha-internexin.
Antibodies to internexin serve as unique probes for studying neuronal types and tracking their processes in tissue and cell culture. Early developmental expression makes alpha-internexin a convenient marker for neuronal progenitor cells and neurons committed to the neuronal lineage.
Use in brain tumor research has not yet been explored but may be of interest.
