Target Information

CD73 (Ecto-5'-nucleotidase, 5'-ribonucleotide phosphohydrolase) catalyzes the conversion of purine 5'-mononucleotides to nucleosides at neutral pH, with AMP as the preferred substrate. It forms a dimer of two identical 70 kDa subunits attached externally to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol linkage.

CD73 serves as a marker of lymphocyte differentiation, and its deficiency is linked to various immunodeficiency diseases. Other 5'-nucleotidase forms exist in the cytoplasm and lysosomes, differing by substrate affinities and activation requirements. The CD73 gene is localized to chromosome 6q14-q21. Defects may cause joint and artery calcification and intestinal tuberculosis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
