eIF5A는 번역 신장 과정에 관여하는 mRNA 결합 단백질로, mRNA turnover 조절, actin dynamics, 세포 주기 진행, mRNA decay 및 스트레스 반응 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 TP53/p53 의존적 세포사멸 조절, TNF-α 매개 세포사멸, 신경 돌기 성장 및 생존, 뇌 발달 및 골격근 줄기세포 분화에도 관여합니다. HTLV-1 Rex 및 HIV-1 Rev 단백질의 세포 내 보조 인자로서, 레트로바이러스 전사체의 mRNA 수출에 필수적입니다.
