Target Information
BMP15 (also known as GDF9B) is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family, part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily involved in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis.
It is expressed exclusively in oocytes and functions as an oocyte-specific growth/differentiation factor involved in oocyte maturation and follicular development.
Defects in BMP15 are associated with ovarian dysgenesis type 2.
BMP15 may serve as an oogenesis marker for tracking human amniotic fluid stem cell differentiation into oocyte-like cells.
